The Log Books of the school tell of the many celebrations that have always played a part in the life of the school, for example:-

1895 - Cheddar British School Golden Jubilee.

1914 - A Union Jack, bought by the managers, was flown for the first time; scholars,

teachers, parents and friends all sang the National Anthem.

1945 - 8th May - V.E. Day, there was a holiday, the Union Jack was hoisted and the school

                            bell was rung.

            26th May - The school's centenary.

29th & 30th May - Centenary celebrations took place:- a Church  Service at the

Some other notable events during the last 158 years:-

1872 - First annual inspection of the school by the H.M.I. Mr. Barry.

1901 - A field adjacent to the school was acquired and a wall built between it and the

           playground.

1912 - Death of Mrs. Amy Jefferies, who, up to her retirement in 1909, had been

Headmistress of the school since 1866.

John Tyson, a later Headteacher wrote in 1945,

" Perusal of the School Log Books emphasises that the Cheddar British School

was the centre of the life of an outstanding woman - one to whom the welfare of

the School and its children mattered above all. Many still living can, and have

testified to her effect on their life and character, and Cheddar itself was the

poorer by her death in 1912."
